Black History Salute

A group of students from Frederick Douglas High School play members of the Free Men of Color during the 195th anniversary of the Battle of New Orleans in the War of 1812 at Chalmette Battlefield on Friday, January 8, 2010.

Slaves as well as free Black men comprised two battalions, called the “Free Men of Color,” and fought with several other units in the Battle of New Orleans, the final battle of the War of 1812. Their role helped the Americans clinch a victory over British forces. During the war, several northern states, including New York and Pennsylvania, recruited entire regiments of Black soldiers and even some southern states like Louisiana and North Carolina enlisted Black soldiers.

Hat Theory: “Are You What Makes Your Hat…Or Does Your Hat Make YOU??”

Obama Sportin' A Cowboy Hat

“Leave everyone wondering which is the more interesting piece of work…you or your hat.”

I really  enjoy quotes about hats and character, because they make you think about how hats can give you this COURAGE.

Sometimes as small as it is – wearing a hat can help you to fathom doing something you never imagined you would do! It’s all about the image and  composure.  Since many in authoritative positions wear hats, they probably can attest to the intrigue, the clout and the  influence they bring to  places where they  are leaders. According to this article ; three out of five of these traits involve  personalities that are  out in the open and  core personality and character traits.

Even President Obama, our president is an introvert – and wearing this hat helps him to TRULY dominate in a way that’s unimaginable in a crowd! If he were  just a regular old guy, without a hat – he would be invisible, don’t you think??

I believe Extraversion, Agreeableness and Openness all involve a certain level of  taking risks. If you  choose to wear a hat, are you a RISK-TAKER?? Perhaps…

Perhaps you enjoy being a little excitable, talkative  willing to be involved in sports and extracurricular activities  (where they wear hats, and even the  ‘interesting’ agreeable persons with pro-social behaviors tend to  have “hat acclaim” – they all seem to have a way of   standing out a little more!  Who knows… even the conscientious people who are careful with details and  are careful and  considerate like to   be noticed as well.. every now and then! I wold be sort of biased to say all extroverts wear hats… but  I’man introvert, and I love them too… so there’s quite   a mixture of personality types that come into the hat genre, but i bet the distinction we add to the  hat world comes when we are in one of these mood below!

    • ExtraversionThis trait includes characteristics such as excitability, sociability, talkativeness, assertiveness and high amounts of emotional expressiveness.
    • Agreeableness: This personality dimension includes attributes such as trust, altruism, kindness, affection, and other pro-social behaviors.
    • Conscientiousness: Common features of this dimension include high levels of thoughtfulness, with good impulse control and goal-directed behaviors. Those high in conscientiousness tend to be organized and mindful of details.
    • Neuroticism: Individuals high in this trait tend to experience emotional instability, anxiety, moodiness, irritability, and sadness.
    • Openness: This trait features characteristics such as imagination and insight, and those high in this trait also tend to have a broad range of interests.

S0… which one are you? Do you have one of the 5 CORE personality traits?

And if so, how do you like to fancy your “hat acclaim” and wear your hats to suit your personality style??

Hat Dreams…

cutie hat“When you wear a hat, it is like medicine for the soul.

The hat is the expression of who you are as a women in every moment! The hat is your dreams of who you can be. It facilitates the different parts of who you are: With the wave of the hat, voila!

You are mysterious…no, you are sexy…now proper…now playful. “

Farewell, Whitney.

A wonderful woman and talented singer left this earth this month and we give honor and homage to a woman who graced this world with laughter, love and  a beautiful spirit for  the majority of her life.

Few women have ever been able to resist the temptation to try on a hat and discover in the mirror a person they never suspected was there. A hat alters the image we have of ourselves, and the image others see as well.

For the hours we wear it, it brings out different dimension in our personality, much as a costume aids an actress in her role.”

If you haven’t seen this stellar performance… it bids the perfect farewell.
